Sr Program Officer – Micro Enterprise & Livelihood (ME&L) and Volunteerism

Operation Blessing (OB) India is seeking an experienced Sr Program Officer to provide support in implementing Micro Enterprise & Livelihood (ME&L) and volunteerism programs/projects at all stages of the project management cycle. Ensure the overall success of the program by making sure that field team completes the defined activities while adhering to internal standards, and that the program is completed on time, within budget and with acceptable quality.

Livelihood Program Responsibility:

• Provide overall leadership to the women empowerment, livelihoods & Social enterprise component

• Promotion of women self-help groups (SHG) both in rural & urban context

• Development of strategies for overall sustainable livelihoods program

• Undertake research (desk and field) to identify livelihood innovations, organize piloting of new innovative ideas and document and disseminate the best practices on sustainable livelihoods.

• Planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of all the activities related to sustainable livelihoods development, especially for promoting employment and income through increasing agricultural productivity and small and medium enterprise development both in rural & urban through market access.

• Diversify the livelihood options for the target communities particularly by introducing activities which add value to the traditional crops/products and technologies.

• Explore the need and organize necessary market and value chain research and enhance linkages with the private sector, financial institutions, and technical services.

• Networking with INGOs, UN Agencies, Donors, Corporates, Financial Institutions and relevant government departments and engage the relevant stakeholders/partners in the livelihood’s projects formulation and implementation.

Volunteerism Program Responsibilities

• Source and recruit volunteers through various techniques (databases, e-mail, social media etc.)
• Collect information on availabilities and skills
• Arrange for appropriate training when needed
• Produce schedules for everyday activities
• Assign responsibilities to the right people for special events
• Coordinate teams of volunteers for large-scale actions
• Communicate frequently with volunteers to ensure they are satisfied and well-placed
• Disseminate information for upcoming actions and events
• Keep detailed records of volunteers’ information and assignments
• Ensure the purpose of the organization and its actions is clearly communicated

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications

Education:

• Master’s Degree in Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Social Sciences, Economics, Business Administration, Management, or related field.

Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of experience in the area of Livelihoods development including agriculture, livestock and microfinance-based programmes;
• Hands-on experience in design, monitoring and evaluation of livelihood development projects.
• Experience of working at the community level

Language:

• Fluency in English and the ability to speak any local languages is an asset.
• Computer literate (thorough understanding of MS Outlook, MS Word, good understanding of MS Excel and MS Access).
• Extensive working knowledge of cross-cultural environments and customs
• Strong decision-making and analytical skills
• Ability to take initiative, be innovative, work independently, and function as a team player.
