BETUL, MADHYA PRADESH –Meet Nirnay Kumre, a 3-year-old boy who was born with an abnormal gland growth under his tongue. The gland which had grown huge in size covered the opening of his mouth. This affected his speech and had difficulty consuming food and water, and his saliva constantly dripped from his mouth. It was difficult for a small boy like him to lead a normal life. Nirnay was fed semi-solid food through a small opening near his upper lips. His worried parents took him to a government hospital and were referred to a well-known hospital in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh but to no avail. He was then referred again to Padhar Hospital at Betul, Madhya Pradesh where Nirnay was diagnosed with a case of vascular malformation ventral surface of the tongue. His parents were sad and helpless because of Nirnay’s condition and knowing that they were unable to bear the cost of his treatment because of their financial condition made the situation worse.
